On 18-19 December 2023, the Leveraging a Climate-neutral Society Strategic Research Network (LCS-RNet) will hold its 14th Annual Meeting online. Under the main theme “Further steps towards Net Zero: Ways to accelerate stakeholder collaboration between citizens, policymakers and researchers”, this annual meeting will feature two keynote speeches and four thematic sessions by leading and cutting-edge experts. The keynotes will feature two topics: ‘Demand-side measures’ and ‘Climate Citizens’ Assemblies’. Thematic sessions will cover ‘Forestry, both at urban and global level’, ‘How we can promote consensus building through public engagement?’, ‘Getting models and modellers to inform national low-carbon strategies: institutional and methodological challenges’ and ‘The role of science for sustainability’.

LCS-RNet is a network of researchers and research institutions closely involved in national climate policies. LCS-RNet was established by a Japanese proposal at the 2008 G8 Environment Ministers’ Meeting. (In 2021, the network was renamed from its original name, the International Research Network for Low Carbon Societies). The network is led by research institutes from five countries (Japan, Germany, France, Italy and the UK) and has contributed to international policy processes by sharing and disseminating research results, providing feedback to national policy processes, and supporting the efforts of various actors to achieve a low-carbon and decarbonised society.

The aim of the meeting is to exchange views with speakers and participants on a range of different topics. In addition, it will lead to future joint research and co-authoring of papers, as well as learning from each other about the initiatives and using the lessons learned in their respective implementations.
