2050 is now: Aligning climate action with long-term climate and development goals
- Argentina, India, Indonesia
The DDP is part of the project “2050 is now: Aligning climate action with long-term climate and development goals” as an implementing partner. The project is led by the World Resources Institute. Other implementing partners include:
- Fundación Bariloche
- European Climate Foundation
- Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) – USA
- World Resources Institute (WRI) – India
- World Resources Institute (WRI) Indonesia
This project will provide governments and in-country research institutes and other relevant stakeholders with tools and analysis to strengthen Long-term strategies on the mitigation of greenhouse gases (LTS) with a strong focus on energy and land-use and food systems, in line with national development goals. Therefore the project will help to align short- and medium-term sectoral, economic and national development plans with LTS, including supporting a just transition. This includes to identify opportunities to enhance Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), on the basis of LTS, while achieving development goals. The project will also build capacity beyond focus countries through convenings, research, and lesson-sharing. The project will improve governments’ readiness to increase ambition and implement actions in line with the long-term transitions necessary to limit warming and adapt to climate change as envisioned in the Paris Agreement.

Towards the Second NDC : Call for a National Dialogue on the Acceleration of Energy Decarbonization in Indonesia
- Indonesia
Indonesia aims to reach net-zero emissions by 2060 or sooner. Initiatives like the JETP have shown the importance of the alignment of key national energy-related decarbonization strategies. A National Dialogue in the context of the 2nd NDC would be a key tool to help move forward the alignment and optimisation of implementation efforts.

On 18-19 December 2023, the Leveraging a Climate-neutral Society Strategic Research Network (LCS-RNet) will hold its 14th Annual Meeting online. Under the main theme “Further steps towards Net Zero: Ways to accelerate stakeholder collaboration between citizens, policymakers and researchers”, this annual meeting will feature two keynote speeches and four thematic sessions by leading and cutting-edge experts. The keynotes will feature two topics: ‘Demand-side measures’ and ‘Climate Citizens’ Assemblies’. Thematic sessions will cover ‘Forestry, both at urban and global level’, ‘How we can promote consensus building through public engagement?’, ‘Getting models and modellers to inform national low-carbon strategies: institutional and methodological challenges’ and ‘The role of science for sustainability’.
LCS-RNet is a network of researchers and research institutions closely involved in national climate policies. LCS-RNet was established by a Japanese proposal at the 2008 G8 Environment Ministers’ Meeting. (In 2021, the network was renamed from its original name, the International Research Network for Low Carbon Societies). The network is led by research institutes from five countries (Japan, Germany, France, Italy and the UK) and has contributed to international policy processes by sharing and disseminating research results, providing feedback to national policy processes, and supporting the efforts of various actors to achieve a low-carbon and decarbonised society.
The aim of the meeting is to exchange views with speakers and participants on a range of different topics. In addition, it will lead to future joint research and co-authoring of papers, as well as learning from each other about the initiatives and using the lessons learned in their respective implementations.
