Report launch: “Innovative International Cooperation for Climate: Reconciling urgent action and transformational change”
Save the date! On 24 November, 2:00PM-3:30PM CET, the DDP network will launch a report “Innovative International Cooperation for Climate: Reconciling urgent action and transformational change”. The technical dialogue of the Global Stocktake calls for ”creativity and innovation in international” cooperation as a critical enabler to achieve the unprecedented systems change required to achieve the Paris Agreement goals. The report illustrates how innovation in international cooperation can help unlock barriers to climate ambition by drawing upon examples within the steel, freight transport, and agriculture, forests, and land use (AFOLU) sectors. The report discusses:
- A revised approach to international value chains in primary steel production compatible with the development of green iron in renewables-rich countries
- New industrial and infrastructure organization patterns compatible with the reduction of freight transport needs and of the share of road in logistics
- Changes in land use and agricultural practices compatible with a halt in deforestation and biodiversity-friendly agriculture
This report emerges from detailed assessments of the necessary conditions for transitioning at the national level, as analyzed by the DDP network.

IMAGINE is an EU funded project that builds modelling capacity, designs national deep decarbonisation trajectories and organises stakeholder engagement campaigns to impact domestic processes in in eight countries, mainly emerging economies.
Another workstream of the project targets works toward international climate processes with the objective of increasing collective ambition. The project started 2021 and will end 2023. The consortium is lead by the DDP Initiative at IDDRI, and is constituted by in-country modelling teams and international partners.

LAC CLIMATE WEEK: Building a regional LAC perspective on the Global Stocktake
- Panama City
Despite some interesting features, the Global Stocktake (GST) process is faced with two key limitations that affect its relevance for Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries. Firstly, due to negotiating groups structures, there is a poor reflection of needs and opportunities of the region, especially including the potential for intra-regional collaborative approaches. Secondly, international cooperation, despite being a central part of the GST, has been less addressed in the submissions and discussions.
The GST provides an ideal opportunity to develop a set of common, succinct messages which can help support a Paris-aligned vision of international cooperation and, by so doing, catalyse the political push for an increase in collective ambition in targets and actions. Investing in preparing a genuine LAC vision to the GST process is necessary to reinforce the effectiveness and inclusiveness of global climate solutions, and ultimately lead to a more successful outcome of COP28. This side event will discuss the outcomes of a collaborative project “Building a regional LAC perspective on the Global Stocktake” which seeks to highlight a story of needs and opportunities that resonates with civil society, researchers, negotiators, and decisionmakers across the region through a sense of common interest in the transition to a just, low-emissions economy.

Status Quo Analysis on African engagement and perspectives on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Global Stocktake
African countries have so far had a poor engagement in the Global Stocktake (GST) process due to a number of factors. This report tries to understand why that is the case and how we could improve on increasing their engagement.
This report is part of the Africa GST project.
